Teaching principles and responsibilities This document was developed in 2002–03 by faculty members on the Academic Affairs Advisory Committee to set forth the roles and responsibilities of faculty and to reaffirm the University’s commitment
to best practices for effective teaching at all levels of instruction.

- More Than A Research University: The Importance of Teaching at the University of Michigan This study presents Faculty Work–Life survey data on teaching. The study polled UM professors on a variety of topics, including their instructional goals, the role of teaching in career satisfaction and, a topic that may be of particular interest to students, the challenges of good teaching.
